Leigh is trained in Somatic Attachment Practitioner and completed Somatic Experiencing Intermediate  Level. She uses trauma and culturally informed practice with research and supervision based on counselling with BIPOC demographics. Leigh believes in creating safety within our clients to share their stories and see their inner resilience.  "It is important to be gentle and kind in the inner work we do with ourselves and others".  She also is empowered by her clients, with their courage to change and adapt to the barriers they face daily.

The 10 plus years of experience in working with Indigenous peoples,  has led her to the creation of an agency that provides integrative services for Indigenous and Non-Indigenous peoples. She is the founder and Executive Director of Indigenous Psychological Services. Leigh created a team of counsellors and psychologists to serve the needs of the clients in Alberta. Leigh has created an internship program and supervision that fosters the Two-Eyed Seeing approach developed by Albert Marshall. Marcus Johnstone

Masters of Counselling

Psychology (in progress):

Yorkville University.

Marcus is a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology student interning with Leigh’s Counselling Services.  Marcus is currently being trained in offering best practices for BIPOC populations. His studies has allowed him exposure to an array of intervention skills and techniques with his focus being in the areas of cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, spirituality and cultural diversity. Over the last 5 years, I have spent time volunteering, participating, and facilitating in transformational healing work. This work focuses on overcoming life challenges, trauma, and healing in either a group or individual setting.

His experience has led to the belief of individuals fundamentally want two things: to be seen and loved for exactly who they are. In his work he strives to support individuals in facilitating their journey so that they may move through life’s challenges with compassionate support and guidance. Each human is vastly unique, and his job is to support clients in finding the answers they seek in life and mental health in a way that compliments their unique nature.

Outside of counselling and psychology, Marcus  grew up playing high level soccer which saw me play with the Canadian Youth National Team, Vancouver Whitecaps Residency and eventually with the University of Alberta. Between soccer and strength and conditioning he has over 10 years of experience working in the field of coaching.
